The siccatives still approved for potatoes inhibit protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO inhibitors). When light hits the treated plants, phytotoxic intermediates are formed during photosynthesis, which then destroy the cells of the plant. This process requires at least 5 h of sun after spraying. This makes spraying logistics more difficult since the time of day is limited in addition to the weather. Even wind, even in the best sunshine, can then still hinder on-time spraying.
