What does agriculture mean without tillage?

No-till or soil conservation agriculture is a farming method in which the soil is not plowed or tilled with significant soil movement before sowing. Instead, crops are sown directly into the previous year’s residue or cover crops, such as corn stalks or wheat stubble. The goal of no-till is to reduce soil erosion, improve soil health and increase water retention. If low tillage is allowed, the methods are also called strip-till or min-till.
