Why cover crops?

Cover crops are plants grown in rotation between crops to sequester CO2 from the air, build humus and protect the soil.

Mixtures of different species ( e.g., grasses, legumes, and crucifers) are good because they root differently and release different substances to feed bacteria and fungi in the soil.

Cover crops also stabilize soil moisture and create habitat for beneficial insects and wildlife. However, they must be stopped again efficiently and gently for the soil and environment before the next main crop.
