How likely is a complete ban on
glyphosate in Europe?

On Nov. 15, 2022, an appeals committee made up of representatives from member states failed to reach the majority needed to give the green light for a provisional EU approval for glyphosate. The EU executive is now expected to adopt a regulation extending the approval deadline to Dec. 15, 2023. A final decision is therefore open.

Even if a significant cancer risk from ingesting glyphosate with food should be ruled out, that still does not clarify possible health risks for users. Also, the problems for the environment caused by large-scale use, resistance problems in the fields, and the recently accumulating evidence of damage to vital bacteria in the gut of insects remain. So at least significant restrictions are more likely than not.
